Breadsticks have long been the greatest part about Olive Garden, so we don't think we'll be alone in our enthusiasm about the news that the chain is going to start selling breadstick sandwiches on June 1.

Olive Garden has adapted those famous garlicky breadsticks to fit ingredients for Chicken Parmigiana and Italian Meatball sandwiches. But don't fret — like everything at Olive Garden, the breadstick sandwiches come with unlimited breadsticks in case you really want to carbo-load.

The Associated Press reports that the sandwiches are a move from Olive Garden to boost sluggish sales. Last year, activist investors lashed out against parent company Darden Restaurants, complaining that servers handed out too many free breadsticks. That company, Starboard Value, ended up taking over Darden's board.

Darden's new chairman, Jeffrey Smith, insists that the fight was never about the quality of the breadsticks themselves, and he's putting his money where his mouth is. "I actually like the breadsticks," he said on the show Wall Street Week. "We are going to use that great brand equity and we're about to come out with breadstick sandwiches."
